Sorry I haven’t written a blog in a while, but the snow slowed me down,
well that’s a lie but it’s the excuse the builders used so I wondered if
I could get away with it.

I’m sure you haven’t failed to notice the immense steel structure that
is now at the front of the Union; they look pretty awesome don’t they?
It really makes it see just how much space the union is gaining at the
front of the building and just how amazing it’s going to look, when the
lift tower is finished and they’ve put LEDs into it, I’m hoping they’ll
light up the sky and you’ll be able to find your way to the Union from
anywhere in Yorkshire, but that’s just a pipe dream.

I’m hoping you’ve noticed the cut through we made from the Source to
Proper Pasty and the CopyShop as we did that ages ago, but in case you
haven’t ventured through it in a while, you may not know we’ve now got
the Union Express in there too. If you weren’t feeling up to the cold,
or the stairs to get to the main Shop when you were in the Source or The
Gallery, we’ve got the Union Express selling, Drinks, Sandwiches,
Chocolates, Newspapers and a few other treats, right there opposite
Proper Pasty waiting for you. To add more excitement to this, we’ve got
over the loss of NatWest and we’re gearing up to celebrate the arrival
of Santander into the building soon, bringing with them two more cash
machines. That’ll take us back up to the original five we had before,
and once the building work is complete, we’ll put the two back outside
and we’ll have SEVEN cash points all over the building.

If you enjoy just chilling in the Union, either sitting in the Gallery,
or in the Source or another random location, you may have noticed the
drilling sounds are getting a little louder than they had been before,
sorry about that, the roof of part of the Union that we’re removing is
basically pure concrete and short of strapping dynamite to it, there’s
now quick and painless way to get it all out, so it’ll be carrying on
for a while, but I guarantee once it stops, you’ll secretly miss it.

You might also have noticed that the Media Hub, and the meeting rooms
Dales and SatPal Ram have had to be taken out of action for six weeks.
This is because they’ll be removing the ceilings in there too,
(thankfully these aren’t concrete) as they are replacing our old air con
units with some nice new environmentally friendly system that will last
us for years, so whilst there is no ceiling in the room, we can’t have
any students meeting in there.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll see the new volunteering office in the
Source get completed, and you start to see more work happen at the
front, but I’ll keep it a good surprise for now.

There’s no need to queue for ages in the East Entrance, especially if you’re on your way for an afternoon pint in Bar|One…why so? because theres an ATM in BarOne for your spending pleasures and by the end of next week
there’ll be one in Interval too, we felt with the winter months fast approaching you’d prefer to stay indoors as much as possible and it means with these spread nicely around the building you haven’t got that far to go. Bonus.

Nice to see everyone making full advantage of the new Coffee Rev door, but be careful when you veer off the path because as soon as it rains you may find yourself walking in mud which isn’t good.

Don’t worry if you find yourself getting a little bit lost (I did too earlier), look out for the coolcats in the Team Students Union T-shirts they’ll quickly put you back on track.
